Mathews voters to face 2-mill levy in November

VIENNA

Mathews school board has voted to put a 2-mill permanent-

improvement levy on the November ballot.

The board chose that rather than a $16 million bond issue. The bonds would have been used to finance two new school buildings. The decision came after a school board meeting lasting more than five hours Wednesday.

Board member Tarin Brown said that it became obvious during the late-night discussions that the majority of the board felt the bond issue would not be received favorably by district voters. Brown said the board did not vote on the issue.
