Cancer survivors to walk in Bark For Life events
NILES
The first American Cancer Society Bark For Life event will be July 10 at Eastwood Field in Niles, where dogs and their owners will take a survivors’ walk at 10 a.m. After the survivor’s lap all dogs and their owners will walk leisurely two times around the exterior of the field.
Bark For Life is a canine event to fight cancer. It is a scaled-down version of Relay For Life with a shorter time element and distance.
Registration for the event is at 9:30 a.m. and the donation is $10 per dog. There will be a registration fee of $1 for each additional dog per owner. Dog bone luminarias will be available for $2 and placed along the fence at the field.
Dogs will have the opportunity to participate in contests and to win awards. At 10:30 a.m. there will be a musical sit contest and at 11 there will be a best-trick contest. Prizes will be awarded at noon to contest winners and to the biggest dog, smallest dog, cutest dog and best-dressed dog.
For an additional $5 donation that night, a dog and owner will be admitted to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers game and will have the opportunity to take part in the Scrappers Bark in the Park event, sponsored by Niles Vet Clinic. There will be a pet parade at 6 p.m. and Bark For Life winners will be featured on the screen during the game.
