71-year-old Ohio man charged in Corvette thefts
CLEVELAND (AP) — An indictment accuses a 71-year-old man of being a car thief who specialized in stealing Corvettes in Ohio and Pennsylvania for chop shops.
According to an FBI affidavit, Daniel Ott Sr. of Akron told agents he has stolen more than 100 of the sports cars in his “career.” Authorities say Ott stole at least 14 Corvettes in the region between April 2009 and May 2010.
Court documents say he told investigators he was paid $1,200 per Corvette by individuals who broke them down for parts.
Ott was arrested June 15 and was indicted this week on counts of interstate transportation of stolen property and aiding and abetting a vehicle chop shop. He’ll be arraigned next month in Cleveland.
