Spartans split two competitions

On Friday, both the girls and boys lost to Massillon Jackson and on Saturday the Spartans won both sides of the meet against Lake.

In the losses to Jackson, freshman Colleen Manning was a double individual winner for Boardman girls.

Manning took firsts in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. She posted career best times of 2:07.67 and 5:47.03 in the wins.

Junior Ashley Aldan won the 50-yard freestyle in the time of 25.94. Junior Jessica Gonda won the 100-yard fly in a career best time of 1:05.06.

“Our girls kept it close with clutch wins from freshman Colleen Manning,” Coach Terry O’Halloran said. “It will be exciting to see how far we go in the sectional and districts champs when everyone is rested.”

On the boys side, Junior Michael Henson won the 100 backstroke (57.36) and Freshman Ryan Bailey posted a winning time of 2:07.06 in 200 yard individual medley.

Boardman won four out of the six relays against Jackson.

Coach O’Halloran said, “As a team we swam very fast Friday night against a strong and a well coached Jackson team. Their boys were undefeated but we gave them a scare.”

Both girls and boys records are 6-4.
