8th grade Glenwood girls at 8-2 so far

With an 8-2 mark after the first 10 games of the season, coach Andy Wade is just hoping that his team can continue their winning ways and keep improving as they eye the All-American Conference post-season tourney.

“We’re an undersized team that plays bigger than their size. We use our speed and quickness, playing an up-tempo brand of basketball while hoping to wear down our opponents.

“It has been a nice run for us thus far,” Wade said. “So we are just hoping to keep improving and hoping to finish strong come tournament time.”

Wade has six players that he relies on when it comes time to draw up his starting lineup, but notes that he has 12 players from which to draw when it comes time to substitute.

The team averages 40-plus points per game and yields just under 20 points so it is easy to see why they are playing at an .800 clip.

Point guard Megan Volosin, shooting guard Nikki Hillard, small forward Mollie Donnelly and power forward Alexia Santiago are the four Wade calls on first.

Depending on the speed or size of the opponents, Taylor Tribble or Faith Saunders draw the starting nod.

Rounding out the squad are Anna Patoray, Taylor Bartolec, Cassidy Gaudio, Dana Creatore, Emily Hefferon and Lindsey Tokarsky.

Tokarsky has played in just one game after suffering a rib injury in a car accident, but Wade is hopeful that she can return before the end of the season.

“Our slogan is 100/100, meaning 100 percent effort 100 percent of the time. That slogan has rung true for us thus far this season,” Wade added.
