7th grade Glenwood girls gel as a unit

Currently 7-3 on the season, the BGMS seventh grade girl’s team has steadily improved over the course of the season, looking to keep their winning ways down the home stretch and into the All-American Conference’s post-season playoffs.

Coach John DePietro is in his 13th season of overseeing the program, noting that he is very pleased with the progress that his young team has made since their opening practice

“This is a youthful squad, but a team with plenty of potential. They are ready to explode at any time,” he said.

Center Amanda Lipke is the team’s scoring leader, averaging a little over 17 points per outing.

“Amanda is one of the best players that I have ever coached,” DePietro added.

Joining Lipke on the starting unit is forward Amanda Moss, the team’s second-leading point producer and power forward Frances Clause — a force underneath who seems to be a carom magnet when in the game.

Rounding out the starting unit is point guard Jessica Fox, the team quarterback who is averaging nearly four assists a contest, and Alison Green, the off-guard who is the team steals leader with nearly five enemy thefts per fray.

Other team members that see plenty of action include guards Alexis Perez, Savannah Snyder and Miranda Bukovinsky with the newest team member, Rikki Yingling, now set for action after joining the team a little over a week ago since moving to the area from Jacksonville, FL.

“We’re a team with a lot of first-timers; girls who have never played on an organized team before in any sport, let alone basketball.

“That’s not a bad thing because they have come together and have worked as a true team since day one,” DePietro added.
