Clothing sought for Haiti

CLEVELAND — All Spitzer Autoworld locations are gathering clothing that will be donated to the Red Cross in Elyria for Haiti relief efforts.

All dealerships have been asked to gather any new or slightly worn clothing that bears out-of-date dealership identification, including shirts, hats and towels. All employees also have been asked to bring in any clean clothing or bedding items from home that they would like to donate.

A huge earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12. According to Haitian authorities, up to 200,000 people have lost their lives, and up to 3 million others were left hurt or homeless and clamoring for assistance.

Spitzer Autoworld has 18 locations in three states representing Acura, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Dodge, GMC, Ford, Kia, Mitsubishi, Pontiac, Scion, Toyota and VW, as well as multiple stand-alone stores specializing in pre-owned vehicles.

Cunningham to retire

CANFIELD — After serving the township for 22 years in various positions, executive secretary Marianna Cunningham is retiring effective March 1.

After an executive session earlier this week, township trustees approved a resolution, accepting Cunningham’s retirement. Her final day will be Feb. 26. Trustee Chairwoman Marie Cartwright said trustees haven’t decided what they’ll do with the position.

The board will discuss whether a particular position is necessary. If they decide to fill a position, Cartwright said the township would advertise for the job.

Cunningham, who began her township career as a secretary, also served on the township’s bargaining unit. She had been executive secretary since 2007. Cunningham said she plans to stay in the area, “move more slowly” and spend time traveling.
