Local United Way campaign surpasses its goal for 2009


YOUNGSTOWN — The United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley announces that it has exceeded its 2009 goal by raising more than $2.5 million for the community.

“Many companies and individuals gave generously this year, and we thank them for their sacrifices to help their neighbors in need,” said Bob Hannon, United Way president and chief professional officer.

Highlights of the campaign:

• More than $80,000 in new dollars was raised. Thanks to a local foundation, $75,000 was matched.

• The Leadership Club, consisting of donors giving $1,000 or more, increased by 42 new members.

• The inaugural 100x100 Campaign brought in 75 new businesses donating $100 to the United Way for the first time.

• The professional division increased with support from more than 20 new donors through The Winner’s Circle.

• Twenty-three local businesses made a corporate donation or conducted a workplace campaign for the first time. The largest new corporate gift was Knoll Run Golf Course, and the largest new workplace campaign was Turning Technologies.

• Largest corporate gift was PNC Bank.

• Largest workplace campaign was General Motors Lordstown complex.

• Second-largest workplace campaign was Youngstown State University.

• Largest gift made by a foundation was The Youngstown Foundation.
