Man pleads innocent to felony-theft charge

WARREN — Richard Mowery, 49, of Berkshire Drive Southeast has pleaded innocent to a felony-theft charge for reportedly trying to run out of Gene’s Jewelers, 112 N. Park Ave., Monday evening with an engagement ring.

Police said Mowery entered the store around 5:30 p.m. and asked a salesperson to show him a ring of between $800 and $1,000. Just after the employee handed him a 14-carat yellow-gold diamond ring, Mowery turned and ran out of the store, followed by the store’s owner, Tom Crowley.

Crowley pinned Mowery against a car a short distance up North Park Avenue and held him there until a Warren police officer arrived.

At Mowery’s arraignment Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court, Judge Terry Ivanchak ordered Mowery to remain in the Trumbull County Jail without bond because of another pending criminal matter. He returns to court at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
