Valley’s unemployment rate remains high

The unemployment rate in the Mahoning Valley dipped slightly in December but remains high.

The combined jobless rate for Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties last month was 13.3 percent, compared with 13.4 percent in November. Last month’s rate is well above the rate in December 2008, which was 9.1 percent.

The slight drop from November followed two straight months of increases. Last month’s figures were released today by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
