Severstal will restart part of Warren mill
WARREN — Severstal said today that it will restart part of its Warren steel mill in mid-March.
The blast furnace and hot strip mill will produce steel, but the cold rolling mill and coating operations will not be restarted at that time.
Some workers will be recalled this week or next week to begin preparatory work, although the company is still discussing with the United Steelworkers of America how many workers will be needed.
About 1,000 hourly workers and 200 salaried workers have been laid off. The blast furnace has been down since October 2008, while other parts of the mill were closed in early 2009.
