In 1909, the Damascus Academy reported it graduated 31 students. In 1911, the former academy was leased to a public school district.
An item from a local newspaper from May 18, 1897, said that on May 14, two large eagles attacked John Johnson, 3. “The child was badly scratched and torn by the talons of the eagles,” the paper reported.
At least seven Damascus men died during the Civil War. Some 24 veterans were buried in the Damascus Cemetery.
