It feels like a tax hike

EDITOR:

I have never written to a newspaper before, but I think I need to share my story with others. The president has stated several times that “if you make less than $250,000 your taxes will not go up.” As I just found out, this is a lie.

I am a retired military person. In December I received my statement from military pay telling me what my monthly pay will be in 2010. I did not receive a cost of living adjustment. My pay went down.

I called military pay to find out why. I was told that this administration has reversed a tax break we received in the past. Now, if this is not a tax increase, I do not know what is (and I do not make any where near a quarter of a million dollars a year).

This is the sleight of hand this administration is pulling. Just like the freeze on cost of living for Social Security. It’s a way of taxing us without calling it a tax.
