AUSTINTOWN — Austintown Community Church, 242 S. Canfield-Niles Road (Route 46), will host the Limited Edition Band of Warren at 7 p.m. Jan. 31. The group features bluegrass and Gospel music. There is no charge for admission but a free-will offering will be taken.Band members are Dan Garrett, banjo, guitar, and vocals; Ray Sponaugle, fiddle and vocals; Joe Click, guitar and vocals; and Sam Berlin, bass and vocals.

First Friday Club

Scout Sunday event
HERMITAGE, Pa. — St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave., will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America on Scout Sunday, Feb. 7. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing Scouts, Explorers, leaders and their families are invited for coffee, juice, and doughnuts at 10:30 a.m., followed by worship at 11. All Scouts and leaders in uniform will receive a free patch. Boy Scouting alumni also will receive a gift from Pastor David Williamson, chaplain at Custaloga Town Scout Camp, and Bradley Parola, Boy Scout district executive.

WARREN — “Youth Explosion 2010 — God of a Second Chance” is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at St. James Church of God in Christ, 1838 Main St. S.W. Among participants will be Tasha Lockhart of Detroit, formerly of Witness gospel group; singers Curtis Lewis and Robert Crockett, guitarist Willie Ross, flutist Justine Chanel, Hoyt Street Choir, Divinity Choir and musicians, soloists, mimes, choirs and drill teams. Farewell reception
KINSMAN — A farewell reception is planned for the Rev. Larry Myers from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at Kinsman Presbyterian Church fellowship hall. Rev. Mr. Myers served on the board of Warren Family Mission and Boyd Home. Programs started at the church under his guidance were Stephen Ministry, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Al-Anon. Groups such as Men’s Cooking Club, Disciple Making Class, Prayer Practices and Bible study were organized under his direction. He began a youth group, which remains active. Mr. Myers also was involved with Presbyterians for Renewal. He participated in two mission trips to Ethiopia. Mr. Myers was a member of Evangelical Ministers Fellowship Group in Trumbull County.
Archbishjop to be honored
YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) — The spiritual leader of the world’s Anglicans is being honored for his contributions to Orthodox Christian scholarship.
Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, head of the global Anglican Communion, will receive an honorary doctorate Saturday, Jan. 30, at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. Williams will also give a lecture that is open to the public.
The Very Rev. John Behr, dean of St. Vladimir’s in Yonkers, called Williams a pioneer in the field, whose doctoral dissertation focused on the Orthodox theologian Vladimir Lossky.
Williams is a member of a fellowship of Eastern Orthodox and Western Christian churches that have been working towards Christian unity. The 77 million-member Anglican Communion is a family of churches that trace their roots to the missionary work of the Church of England.
