Canfield’s Reed wins Dies tournament title


Canfield wrestler Robby Reed won the 125-pound championship at the Bill Dies Memorial Tournament Jan. 16.

Reed entered the tournament seeded fourth and captured the top spot by beating the No. 1 seed in the semifinals and the No. 2 seed in the finals.

Other notable performances were Alex Benedict (130) who finished fifth and Lucas Daprile (140) who finished eighth. This year, 45 teams competed in the annual event and Canfield finished 12th as a team. All wrestlers won matches and scored points for Canfield in this tournament.

Those competing included Anthony Spencer (103), Ben Gleichert (119), Leo Daprile (135), PJ Hido (145), Alex DeChurch (152), Eric Mirto (160), Drake Gray (171), Mike Flanagan (189), Mark Douglass (215) and Rob Gleichert (285).
