Boardman swim teams win five meets in a row


The Spartan swimmers notched two victories Jan. 15 and brought their win streak to five in a row by defeating Roosevelt and Hubbard girls and boys teams.

In the win against Roosevelt, four Boardman juniors led the team with two victories each. Ashely Alden won the 100 butterfly (1:03.05) and the breaststroke (1:14.37). Steven Moss and Mike Reardon tied for the first time in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.81. Reardon also placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:58) while Moss won the 50 free in 23.69. Mike Henson won the 200 individual medley in 2:15.28 and the 100 backstroke in 59.23.

Also taking individual first places were Karlie Ligore, one meter diving (210.10), Jessica Gonda, 200 individual medley (2:23.12), Colleen Manning 100 backstroke (1:06.46), Ali Azeem, 100 butterfly (58.74), Ryan Bailey, 500 freestyle (5:21.21) and Kyle Knecht 100 breaststroke (1:10.1).

The final scores were Boardman boys 125 to 50 and the girls 104 to 81.

The Boardman team swamped Hubbard by taking firsts in 21 out of 24 events.

Double event winners were Manning, 200 individual medley (2:28.48) and 500 freestyle (5:49.81), Gonda, 50 free (28.44) and 100 free (1:00.78), Alden, 200 free (2:04.6) and 100 backstroke (1:05.16), Bailey, 100 fly (57.06) and 100 back (1:00.1) and Henson 200 free (1:58.42) and 500 free (5:22.70).

Single event winners were Ligore, 1 meter diving (182.25), Marissa Kubala, 100 fly (1:15.71), Emily Bodamer, 100 breast (1:20.31) and Azeem, 200 individual medley (2:28.48).

Boardman won all six relays against Hubbard.

Final scores against Hubbard were Boardman boys 120 to 50 and for girls, 149 to 26.
