Yoo is an unlikely preacher

Yoo is an unlikely preacher

EDITOR:

In a Jan. 19 column in The Vindicator, John Yoo, the legal adviser to former president George W. Bush, dares to admonish the current administration on how to handle the security and safety of this country. Yoo, along with many of the neo-cons, was hellbent on world domination through unconstitutional imperialistic military actions, like Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz and others in the past administration.

We know their arguments quite well, because their rhetoric always suggests that President Barack Obama’s administration is getting bogged down with:

1) “political correctness” and being respectful to other people and countries around the world. As if that is some sign of weakness.

2) President Obama should disregard his campaign promises of closing Gitmo and stopping the extremely illegal and inhumane torture that Yoo and his ilk did in the name of our nation.

3) the utilization of our judicial system to bring our enemies to justice.

They cannot have it both ways. They cannot continue to say that our judicial system is the best in the world, yet deny the use of it. You cannot claim that our Constitution makes us the greatest country in the world, yet limit our own actions to unconstitutional and illegal activities.

The only real advice that one should give to the president is to actually try these war criminals of the Bush administration in court and sentence them to long prison terms.

When time is of the essence

EDITOR:

I am a lifetime resident of Youngs–town. Having served as a registered nurse for over 30 years, I am sharing an experience that exemplifies the need for Forum Health care.

My spouse had a sudden, severe attack of abdominal pain. We went to the nearest hospital, which was St. Elizabeth’s in Boardman. He was evaluated by the triage nurse and told he would have to wait his turn. She told us it was probably a kidney stone, which we as well surmised. She said the emergency room was full, that there were 12 patients ahead of him, and that it would be at least a two-hour wait. (Those of you who have had kidney stones can appreciate the severity of this pain.)

We left and drove to North Side emergency. Upon arrival, my husband was immediately triaged into the emergency room, and received immediate physician evaluation and treatment for pain. Within 45 minutes, his diagnostic testing provided evidence that he definitely had a kidney stone. Finally, we were given the reassurance that it was not one of a number of life threatening conditions that can masquerade as a kidney stone.

The medical and nursing staff at North Side were professional, seasoned and sympathetic with a common goal to provide excellent care. Our opinion of Forum Health remains that it is a first-class medical center which provides timely, effective, compassionate and excellent care.
