34West Theater Company this weekend brings back “My Name Is Ruth.” Set in the 1950s, the play is actually a romantic-comedy based on the biblical story of Ruth. A fortuitous last-minute addition to the calendar will land Controllar in Youngstown this weekend. The experimental synth-pop duo from the Netherlands will be at Cedars on Friday night. Controllar, who played Cedars in 2008, is something to behold, but not easy to describe. Thomas Myrmel coaxes electronica out of a laptop wearing what looks like a Wii armband, and Anat Spiegel sings in a sultry jazz voice. The show starts at 11 p.m.

Trumbull New Theatre’s production of “Twelfth Night,” the classic Shakespeare comedy, enters its final weekend. Curtain times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. The theater is at 5883 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles. Call (330) 652-1103.

Youngstown State University Theater will present “The Shape of Things,” a modern take on Adam and Eve. The play, written by Neil LaBute and turned into a movie in 2003 starring Rachel Weisz and Gretchen Mol, will be presented for just four performances, Jan. 28-31, at Spotlight Arena Theater, inside Bliss Hall.
