Woman's actions lead to arrest of robbery suspect


HERMITAGE, Pa. — A man threatened a woman with a tire iron in the parking lot of Wal-Mart, then demanded her purse, police report.

The woman refused to give it to him and hit her car alarm, causing him to run away.

Jonathan Packard, 21, of Fourth Avenue in Sharon, was later charged with robbery and criminal conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police said the woman was returning to her car after dropping her cart at a return station at 11:32 p.m. Monday. A man confronted her there, then ran to a waiting car. Police tracked the license-plate number.

Packard was arrested at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday and remained in the Mercer County Jail overnight with bond set at $15,000.
