YOUNGSTOWN — A 10-year-old boy was attacked by a rottweiler while walking to his grandfather’s residence on Donald Avenue.
The dog’s owner was arrested on an outstanding warrant charging him with having a vicious dog.
Cory Davis, 10, was treated for a gash on his arm at St. Elizabeth Health Center after the attack at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said the boy was walking from the old Stambaugh School up the street when the dog broke loose from his chain at 2339 Donald Ave. and attacked.
He said he was not trying to call the dog or get its attention when the dog rushed him.
It grabbed the boy’s forearm, pulled him to the ground and began dragging him around, the report said.
The dog’s owner, Nathan Haynes, 31, ran out of the house, grabbed the dog and put it inside, police said.
He gave police current addresses of Judson and Weston avenues but explained that he brought the dog to the Donald house after a fight with his wife.
Police discovered the warrant dated Oct. 28, 2009, and took Haynes to the Mahoning County jail.
The dog warden was being notified about the dog, the report said.
