Bowling Green rallies to upend Kent

KENT — Scott Thomas scored 27 points and Dee Brown added 21 to lead Bowling Green past Kent State 76-70 on Sunday.
The Falcons (8-7, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) trailed 35-28 at halftime before getting 18 points from Thomas and 15 from Brown.
Bowling Green trailed 66-63 with 2:23 remaining before two free throws by Thomas, and a 3-pointer by Brown, put the Falcons up for good, 68-60 with 1:04 remaining.
The Golden Flashes (10-7, 1-2) pulled within 70-67 on Chris Singletary’s free throw with 33 seconds left. But the Falcons scored six straight points to pull away. Thomas capped the run on two free throws with 12 seconds to play.
Joe Jakubowski had 11 assists for Bowling Green, which shot 57.7 percent in the second half.
Mike McKee paced the Falcons with 20 points. Justin Green, Tyree Evans and Singletary scored 13 points each for Bowling Green.
Buffalo 78, Akron 65
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Rodney Pierce tied his career high with 31 points as Buffalo started 3-0 in the MAC for the first time.
Pierce has scored 20 or more points in the past eight games as the Bulls (10-4, 3-0) won their fourth straight and seventh in their past eight.
Jimmy Conyers scored 17 and Steve McNees (Shenango) added 16 for Akron.
Ball State 71, Toledo 43
MUNCIE, Ind. — Terrence Watson had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Ball State over Toledo.
Jauwan Scaife led the Cardinals (7-8, 1-2 Mid-American) with 20 points. Ball State, which shot 50 percent from the field, never trailed in the contest and was ahead by double figures midway through the first half. The Cardinals led 40-22 at halftime.
Brawley Chisholm scored all nine of his points in the first half for Ball State, and Jarrod Jones contributed nine rebounds in the game. Ten players scored for the Cardinals.
Malcolm Griffin and Jake Barnett scored 12 points each for Toledo (3-14, 0-3). It was the Rockets’ seventh straight loss.
