Fennells to renew marriage vows on anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN — The Rev. Gerald L. and Mrs. Fennell of Youngstown will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their marriage vows on Saturday at Hubbard First Presbyterian Church, where they were united in marriage on Jan. 23, 1960.

Participating in the renewal ceremony as attendants will be their four grandchildren, Emily Crisan, maid of honor; Nicholas Kalan, best man; Jacob Kalan, ring bearer; and Samantha LaHart, flower girl.

Afterward the couple will be honored during a reception at Avion on the Water in Canfield.

The Rev. and Mrs. Fennell are parents of Susan Kalan of Girard, Laurie Crisan of Poland and Amy LaHart of Camillus, N.Y., who were hosts for the celebration.

Mrs. Fennell, the former Graceanne Wilson, a private duty nurse and office registered nurse, retired in 1997 as a registered nurse and staff nurse at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren.

The Rev. Fennell served with the U.S. Army in East Africa from 1954 to 1957. He was an elementary school teacher and principal for Youngstown City Schools until resigning and enrolling at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, He became an ordained minister in 1976 and served at Christ United Presbyterian Church in Youngstown. After that he served a 20-year senior pastorate at Niles First Presbyterian Church and is currently a parish associate at Poland Presbyterian Church.
