YOUNGSTOWN — The American Heart Association’s 2010 Heart Ball on March 6 at Stambaugh Auditorium will be an elegant black-tie fundraiser.
Proceeds from the annual event will be used by the AHA to combat America’s No.1 killer — heart disease and stroke. The proceeds will help support Northeast Ohio research institutions and help fund heart disease and stroke educational programs throughout the community.
Singled out for recognition at the event will be a local physician and a local citizen who are making strides in the fight against the ailments. Julie Nohra Schiavone will be the recipient of the 2010 Heart of the Community Award, and Dr. Atef S. Labib of the Ohio Heart Institute will receive the 2010 Cardiac Service Award.
The evening will include live and silent auctions and a dinner. Music for dancing will be provided by The Sensations.
This year’s Heart Ball will focus on children and cardiovascular disease and on pediatric research. Each year approximately 36,000 infants are born with a heart defect. Congenital heart defects kill more children under 1 year of age than any other birth defect. Since 2003 the American Heart Association has committed more than $41.1 million for pediatric research.
Dr. Cathy Mastropietro is chair for the event, and sponsors follow: Healing Heart Society sponsor is St. Elizabeth Heart and Vascular Center, Humility of Mary Health Partners; Premier Table Sponsors are Dr. Felix Pesa and Mastropietro; and Table Sponsors are Boston Scientific, John and Michelle Perdue, and Ohio Heart Institute.
Tickets for the evening are $150 per person, a portion of which is tax deductible. For additional ticket information and details about sponsorship opportunities, contact the AHA at (330) 965-9230.
