Winter Wednesdays offers kids a fun, family-friendly escape

NILES — Winter Wednesdays at the Eastwood Expo Center can help kids combat winter boredom.

Presented by Morphsports, Winter Wednesdays is a weekly program of healthful, constructive entertainment for kids ages 5 and older. It’s also a break from winter weather and a family-friendly escape with the right amount of exercise.

Winter Wednesdays will take place every Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Kids may attend and participate at any point during the season, which runs from Wednesday through March 24.

Because of the sponsorship of Alberini’s Restaurant in Niles and Grace Church of Howland, admission is free. A spectator-seating section is available for parents.

Divided by age groups, youngsters will compete in a series of four sports-based games: One-on-None Basketball, Big Play Payoff (football), Kick-Clock Challenge (soccer) and Long Gone Derby (baseball). All four games employ simple concepts but provide many strategies and variables. The program includes snacks, daily prizes for each age group and grand prizes for the highest scores.
