Coach Al Dohar’s junior varsity and varsity boys bowling teams are flip-flops of each other thus far record-wise, with the varsity posting a 4-2 overall record (3-1 in league). The jayvee squad has a 2-4 overall mark (1-3 mark in league).

Finishing sixth out of nine teams recently in a tourney at Camelot Lanes, the jayvee Spartans feature three sophomores; Zach Warchol (182.0 avg.), Matt Schaffer (180.0 avg.) and Matt’s twin brother, Mike (175.0 avg.).

The varsity owns wins over rival Austintown Fitch, Massillon Perry and Uniontown Lake in the league and nonleague opponent Struthers.

Senior Troy Wilson’s 225.0 average is tops, while sophomores Jimmy Tancabel (210.0 avg.) and Jake Stauffer (200.0 avg.), and freshman Robby Childs (198.0 avg.) are the bowlers to watch.

Stauffer recently rolled a 453 set over the holidays in a match against Struthers/Austintown Fitch.

While the girls varsity is off to a fast 6-0 start overall (4-0 league), the jayvee program has been equally impressive, having posted a 4-1 mark (2-1 league).

The junior varsity program owns wins over Austintown Fitch and Uniontown Lake in the league, adding wins over both Struthers and the Falcons in nonleague contests as well.

Seniors Joelle Umstead (175.0 avg.) and Devin Ferrell (172.0 avg.) pace the nine-member squad, which features seniors Erica Detate and Chrystal Hodge; juniors Kayla Miller, Michelle Rober and Sarah Craven; sophomore Nalisha Mena and freshman Lindsey Dugan; one of three sisters on the team.

The varsity counts on Ciarra Moran (207.0 avg.) and Rachel Dugan (201.0 avg.) with three others, Tiffany Dugan, Tiffany Terlecki and Amanda Van Fossan, all averaging in the area of 175 per game.

The varsity has bowled wins over Fitch, No. Canton Hoover, Uniontown Lake and Massillon Perry in league play, adding nonleague wins over the Falcons and the Struthers Wildcats.
