Local storage company raises money and awareness for animal sanctuary
Shepherd Self-Storage on South Avenue in Boardman joined forces with Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary in Salem and raised $420 and food, leashes, treats and other products to help care for animals during the winter.
The fundraiser began in mid-November with empty boxes being placed in the Shepherd lobby. Pet photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus were also offered for two days in exchange for donations. The collection ended in late December with two pickup trucks of items being delivered to the sanctuary.
Alchemy Acres is a nonprofit, no-kill, animal sanctuary that specializes in the physical and psychological rehabilitation of animals that are not considered immediately adoptable by other people.
Since its inception in 2004 by the Sacco family, it has rescued and placed over 2,000 animals into loving homes.
Sarah Sacco Olson, from Alchemy, said that the fundraiser has created a great response from the public and more recognition from those who had no idea Alchemy existed.
