JV wrestlers earn fourth-place finish
The Boardman Junior Varsity Wrestling Team battled in the Cleveland Heights Freshman, Sophomore Classic Tournament on Jan. 9 to a fourth place out of 18 teams.
They finshed with 127 points — behind Kenston, Brush and the Champions St. Ignatius.
The Spartans were led by four wrestlers who finished second in the tournament. Alex Rich (103) improved his record to 11-5 by going 3-1 to get to the finals, Matt Inghram (135) is 8-6 and also gained a spot in the finals.
Sophomore Tom Moran (145) in his first comptetiton of the season, finished second, losing 7-4 in the finals. His record is 2-1 on the season. The last Spartan to make the finals was Joe Cordova (215) 10-4 overall this season.
Other Spartan wrestlers who placed in the tournament were Jack Liggitt (119) 5-4, Kyle Kodas (130) 5-6, Matt Koziorynsky (152) 7-3, Scott Glenn (189) 6-12, and Mike Caraballo (215) 7-5.
Other wrestlers who participated in the event were Matt Broderick, Shawn Haynes, Ben Kirk, John Dubiel and Corey Breckner.
Final team scores were Saint Ignatius, 143.5, Brush 131.5, Kenston 129, Boardman 127, Willoughby South 115.5, Madison 99, Solon 95, Brunswick 81.5, Normandy 71.5, Bay Village 38, Kirtland, 31, Admiral King 30.5, Mentor 28, Shaker Heights 21, Fairview 13, Cleveland Heights 6, and Kent Roosevelt 4.
