Donation of warmth

With the climax of the winter season rapidly approaching, proper winter accessories are a necessity.

Fifty-eight new coats were recently donated to the Mahoning/Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP) for their Head Start program.

MYCAP is a nonprofit agency that encompasses 11 various community services, all in the Mahoning County. This noble act of community service was placed into action by Boardman Rotarian Ryan Cuffle, according to a news release.

Cuffle became aware of children’s need for winter coats and decided to put in a special request. Cuffle phoned Celeste Lisko, community service committee co-director, and explained the winter coat situation. An emergency vote on the issue was requested by Lisko and the rest is history.

The Boardman Rotary’s executive board approved a donation of $1,000 to be used to purchase coats for the kids. Cuffle took the donation and purchased 58 winter coats from Kohl’s.

The Rotary International abides by the motto “Service Above Self.” The Boardman Rotary Club has placed servicing the MYCAP above the obligation of providing service for themselves.

Though the $1,000 could have been used for internal needs, the money has provided children of the Mahoning County with warm winter coats.
