LOUIE TODAY: Webb critic, rabbi on MLK and Editor Todd
Louie, Vindy'com's news radio partner, will interview the Rev.Cecil Monroe this morning just days after the pastor called for the resignation os Youngstown schools Superintendent Wendy Webb.
The pastor of Higher Learning Church in Austintown has three children in the Youngstown school system — a daughter in preschool, a son in kindergarten and a daughter in first grade — and told Youngstown Board of Education that he was speaking as a concerned parent at its meeting Tuesday night.
The failing grade given the school district on its 2009 state local report card is a reflection of the superintendent’s and school board’s concern about the students, he said during his remarks. The district appears to have a lackadaisical approach to academics, and that gives everyone a license not to try as hard as they can, he said.
Then Rabbi Brad Hirshfeld will give brief comments on Dr Martin Luther King.
"Dr. King’s method of integrating deep faith with his political agenda was fundamentally different and far more constructive than is typically used by politicians and activists. Today’s leaders choose the religious texts and ideas which just support their positions, while ignoring those that could be used to prove the opposite. Dr. King offered an alternative model in which religious ideas were offered not as ammunition toward narrowly defined practices, but as inspiration for all Americans, including those who were deeply divided about how to build a better nation," the rabbi has said.
Plus Vindicator Editor Todd Franko will offer his weekly commentary on local happenings.
