Judge orders El Patio Motel sold because of use for prostitution
STAFF REPORT
CANFIELD — Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court has ruled in a civil case against the El Patio Motel that allows the property to be sold.
The judgment entry states that Arthur Klein, who owns the motel property at 485 W. Main St., must give up all rights to operate a hotel, motel or other place of temporary or permanent lodging on the property.
The motel has been boarded up as a public nuisance since May after Klein and two others were charged with crimes related to prostitution inside the facility. The property will no longer be deemed a nuisance by the city, according to the judgment.
Klein also must repay $4,540 to the city for costs incurred during the investigation.
Klein will be able to sell the property, as he did with the Canfield Colonial, 7815 Akron-Canfield Road, which also was involved in the investigation.
The 67-year-old pleaded guilty Jan. 4 before Judge D’Apolito to a felony charge of promoting prostitution. The judge said he will rule on Klein’s sentence after a pre-sentencing investigation. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 4.
