Canton man convicted in 3 slayings
CANTON (AP) — An Ohio man has been convicted in the slayings of his two children and former mother-in-law and faces the death penalty at sentencing hearings next week.
James Mammone III, who’s 36, was convicted by a Stark County jury Thursday of three counts of aggravated murder and other charges.
Court testimony showed that Mammone, of Canton, confessed killing 5-year-old Macy, 3-year-old James IV and 57-year-old Margaret Eakin in June to police, his ex-wife and others.
Eakin was shot in her home. The children were found in the back seat of their father’s car with their throats cut.
Mammone had told investigators he wanted to inflict severe emotional pain on his ex-wife after their recent divorce.
