Police arrest man in shooting in Sharon

STAFF REPORT

SHARON, Pa. — Police say a city man was shot in the upper arm, shoulder and chest after an altercation in the 500 block of Stambaugh Avenue.

Devin Williams, 23, is a patient in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Police said his wounds did not appear to be life-threatening.

Police arrested Muhammud Bin Abdul Rahim Hill, 26, of Grand Rapids, Mich., on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault. He was arraigned before District Justice Lorinda Hinch and is in Mercer County Jail on $75,000 bond. Police said Hill may be on parole on unrelated federal charges.

Police were called to Stambaugh Avenue around 12:50 a.m. Wednesday after reports of gunshots in the area. A short time later, Williams showed up at UPMC Hospital in Farrell, where he had been taken by a friend.

Police said his wounds were caused by an assault rifle.

Hill, who also has addresses in Sharon and Youngstown, was found in a home in the 500 block of Stambaugh. An assault rifle and a 9mm handgun were recovered near the scene of the shooting, police said.

A motive for the shooting is unclear, but police said the two men did have an argument. Hill then got an assault rifle and fired at Williams, who, at that point, was sitting in the passenger seat of a car, police said.
