Man to be arraigned
GOSHEN — John Profanchick, arrested by federal marshals Tuesday, will be arraigned in Mahoning County court today on two charges of felonious assault, aggravated robbery, intimidation and theft.
Police say Profanchick assaulted an elderly man and his stepdaughter after a New Year’s Eve party in the early hours of Jan. 1.
An argument ensued between the two men, and Profanchick, 37, reportedly beat the man in the face with his fists and with a shotgun, said Goshen Township Police Sgt. Steve McDaniel.
When the man’s stepdaughter attempted to call police, Profanchick allegedly pushed her through a window. McDaniel said Profanchick then took cash, two cell phones and a camera and fled the residence on U.S. Route 62 in Damascus.
Man faces menacing, animal-cruelty charges
YOUNGSTOWN — A city man is in Mahoning County jail accused of shooting his family dog with a pellet gun and threatening an officer who arrested him.

According to police, Baker, who had been drinking, grabbed a pellet gun, went into his basement at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday and shot the 8-month-old Labrador retriever puppy six times. Family members counted the pellet wounds on the dog.
