Jack C. Amato Jr. pleads guilty to shooting his wife


LISBON — Jack C. Amato Jr. will be sentenced at 11 a.m. March 5 by Judge C. Ashley Pike of Columbiana County Common Pleas Court after Amato pleaded guilty today in the shooting death of his wife.

Amato, 39, of Wellsville, faces three to 10 years in prison on a charge of voluntary manslaughter and an additional three years for using a gun in the commission of the crime.

Amato told investigators he shot his wife, Tonia, 25, after they argued at their home at 1200 Commerce St., Wellsville, the afternoon of July 1, 2007.

Amato also faces charges that he had guns and bomb after he was released on monitored house arrest after he was charged in his wife’s shooting death.
