Pittsburgh doctor guilty in $1M Medicare fraud


PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pittsburgh physician has agreed to repay more than $3.3 million to Medicare after pleading guilty to fraudulently charging for services he never rendered.

Dr. John Kristofic, 61, pleaded guilty to collecting more than $1 million for the fraudulent claims from 2003 until 2008. By law, he must repay three times what he stole.

Kristofic will face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he returns to be sentenced May 7 by U.S. District Judge Donetta Ambrose.
