Convicted Ohio county Dem leader resigns
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — A county Democratic chairwoman has resigned in Ohio after being convicted of falsifying campaign finance reports.
Susan Gwinn says in a letter to the Athens County Board of Elections that she stepped down and turned things over to the county party’s vice chairman Monday night.
Earlier that day, a judge in Athens County Common Pleas Court found Gwinn guilty of two misdemeanor falsification counts for misreporting campaign finance reports during a run for prosecutor.
She was acquitted of more serious charges of theft in office, unauthorized use of property and money laundering. Plus, during Gwinn’s trial in December, the judge dismissed charges related to allegations that she illegally offered money for college students’ votes.
