Struthers pulls past Beaver Local


LISBON — Dana Mathews scored 16 points and Kaitlyn Opritza added 10 for the Struthers High girls basketball team, which survived a scare in the closing seconds to hold on for a 54-52 win over Beaver Local on Monday.

After a Struthers player missed the front end of a one-and-one in the final seconds, Beaver Local’s Sam Cianni drove to the rim on the other end for a layup that rolled around the rim and came out.

Cianni scored 16 points with four steals for Beaver Local (4-7, 0-1), while Allie Bangor had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Both teams lost players to injury, with Helen Hird going down with a foot/ankle injury in the first quarter for Struthers (8-3, 1-0 AAC White) and Taylor Pike injuring her knee in the second quarter for BL. Neither player returned.

Warren JFK 64, Chaney 46

WARREN — Erin McBride scored 21 points and Paige Klaric 19 to spark Warren JFK (6-6). Katlin Bucci contributed six points and 10 rebounds.

Taylor Carter had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead (2-9).

Campbell 62, Hubbard 47

HUBBBARD — Iesha Moses poured in 29 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead Campbell (6-2).

Tashira Uceta added 17 points, 10 steals and six assists and Jayaira Grhim 12 to aid the Red Devils.

Krista Julian netted 17 points to spark Hubbard (5-6).

Crestview 51, Columbiana 48

COLUMBIANA — Ashley Harrison scored 21 points go with four assists and three steals for Crestview (5-6, 2-4 ITCL Tier One), which took a 26-18 halftime lead.

Shanelle Davner had 16 points and four blocks and Chelsea Caudill added 12 points.

For Columbiana (4-8, 0-6), Katie Witmer scored 29 points and Irene Coy had 13 rebounds and three blocks.

Lisbon 61, Mineral Ridge 38

MINERAL RIDGE — Mindy Jackson scored 25 points and Katie Snoddy added 13 to pace Lisbon (8-2, 4-2), which took a 31-18 halftime lead.

Megan Ben scored 10 points to pace the Rams (5-6, 1-5).

United 69, East Palestine 44

HANOVERTON — Rachel Sell hit for 14 points while Chelsea Laughlin, Crystal Richards and Sierra Parks added 10 apiece to spark United (9-3, 5-1 ITCL Tier One). Parks also had nine rebounds and five steals.

Bre Hull netted 16 points and Emily Casto 12 to lead East Palestine, while Kay George grabbed six rebounds.

Western Reserve 49, Leetonia 20

LEETONIA — Colleen Kennehen and Matti Shahadan each scored 10 points to spearhead Western Reserve. Clarissa Perkins had nine points for Leetonia (3-8).

Sebring 56, Jackson-Milton 31

NORTH JACKSON — Maggie Householder made five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points for Sebring (6-4, 2-3 ITCL Tier Two).

Jill Bragg added 12 points and nine rebounds, Emily Dickens had 10 assists and Katy Butler had eight rebounds for the Trojans, who outscored the Bluejays 28-8 in the second half.

Shyann Nicholas scored seven points with five rebounds for JM (1-9, 1-4).

Wellsville 41, Southern 38

SALINEVILLE — Mikyla Tipton scored 27 points and the Tigers outscored the Indians 16-7 in the third quarter en route to a Tier Two victory.

Maddy Dowling scored 18 points for Southern.
