Ohio jury hears taped confession in three killings

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — A jury has heard the taped confession of an Ohio man charged with killing his two young children and his former mother-in-law.

The confession of 36-year-old James Mammone III was played Monday at his murder trial in Canton. Mammone says on the tape that for nearly two years he wanted to kill ex-wife and her mother, but the children weren’t his intended targets.

Mammone says he cut the children’s throats with a butcher knife and made sure the wounds were fatal.

Mammone, whose trial continues today, could face the death penalty if convicted. He has pleaded not guilty to the killings.
