Browns: President Mike Holmgren does not believe injured quarterback Brady Quinn will need foot surgery. Quinn missed Cleveland’s final two games after hurting his left foot in a Dec. 20 win over Kansas City. The team has not given specifics of Quinn’s injury. On Monday, Holmgren, who took over the club’s football operations last week, provided the most detailed update. Holmgren said he met with the team’s medical staff and was told Quinn needs time for his injury to heal but would likely be able to avoid surgery. Quinn opened the season as Cleveland’s starter, was benched after 10 quarters, then got his job back. He went 2-7 in nine starts. He finished 136 of 256 (53 percent) for 1,339 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Bills: Add New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the list of candidates in the Bills’ search for a new head coach. The Bills have asked the Jets for permission to interview Schottenheimer, a person told The Associated Press on Monday. It’s unclear when the interview might take place, the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the Bills have not revealed their list of candidates to replace Dick Jauron, who was fired in November. The son of former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer, Brian Schottenheimer is in his fourth season as the Jets coordinator. This season, he was credited for overseeing a run-oriented offense to allow the development of rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. Sanchez, a first-round draft pick, helped New York to a 9-7 finish and a playoff berth.

Raiders: Tom Cable is expected to meet with owner Al Davis to discuss his status as Oakland Raiders coach. The two had planned to meet Monday after Cable spent a week evaluating the team with his assistants. As of early Monday afternoon, the meeting had not yet happened.
