MLK celebration set

YOUNGSTOWN — Congregation Rodef Sholom, 1119 Elm St., will have its annual celebration of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during a program, “Racism and Poverty: Exploring the Causes of Hunger in Our Community,” at 5:45 p.m. Friday. The evening will include a religious service incorporating King’s words, a potluck dinner and a discussion of the relationship between racism and poverty, two of the primary causes of hunger.

Participants are asked to bring a main dish, salad, vegetable or dessert to share — enough for 12 people. No pork or shellfish will be accepted. Reservations are preferred but not required. Call the temple at (330) 744-5001.

Congregation Rodef Sholom also is sponsoring a food drive, collecting nonperishable food for the neighborhood food shelf operated by Richard Brown Memorial United Methodist Church. Drop food donations off in the bins near the building entrance.

The project is sponsored by the Social Justice Havurah of Congregation Rodef Sholom.

The victim gave her cash and saw her escape in a gray Chevrolet Cobalt, according to the report.

Road closing extended

WARREN — The closing of a section of North River Road near North Park Avenue for construction of a sewer line has been extended indefinitely.

The closing, which began Saturday, has been extended because the work will take longer than expected. The road is closed just east of North Park Avenue while workers dig through North Park Avenue.

Jim Jones, project engineer with the Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer’s office, which is overseeing the project, said the closure is likely to last all week.

Workers have been installing the sewer line just south of there, along North Park Avenue, since early November. The area is just north of the Warren city limits.

The 4,400-foot sewer line will serve North Park Avenue and a portion of North River Road, including Glunt Industries, Thompson Heating and Cooling and Horvath Mobile Home Park.
