Congregation Rodef Sholom hosts MLK community program, potluck dinner Friday

YOUNGSTOWN — Congregation Rodef Sholom, 1119 Elm St., will have its annual celebration of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during a program, “Racism and Poverty: Exploring the Causes of Hunger in Our Community,” at 5:45 p.m. Friday. The evening will include a religious service incorporating King’s words, a potluck dinner and a discussion of the relationship between racism and poverty, two of the primary causes of hunger.

Participants are asked to bring a main dish, salad, vegetable or dessert to share — enough for 12 people. No pork or shellfish will be accepted. Reservations are preferred but not required. Call the temple at (330) 744-5001.

Congregation Rodef Sholom also is sponsoring a food drive, collecting nonperishable food for the neighborhood food shelf operated by Richard Brown Memorial United Methodist Church. Drop food donations off in the bins near the building entrance.

The project is sponsored by the Social Justice Havurah of Congregation Rodef Sholom.
