JOHN ROSEMOND | Fast facts


John Rosemond, a family psychologist, author, parenting expert and national speaker, gave two sessions Saturday at Boardman High School about rearing young children and handling teenagers. Some background on him:

Enrolled in Western Illinois University in the 1960s and became the lead singer of a rock ‘n’ roll band that later opened on two occasions for REO Speedwagon.

Moved with his wife, Willie, and two children to Sylva, N.C., in 1974, and took a job as a psychologist for children with learning and behavior challenges.

Moved with his family to Gastonia, N.C., in 1976, where he became director of the local mental-health center’s early-intervention program. He also started writing newspaper columns to address parenting concerns.

Accepted an offer from the Charlotte Observer in 1978 to write columns that a short time later became syndicated. His weekly column appears in more than 200 papers, including The Vindicator.

Entered private practice in 1979. Ten years later, published “John Rosemond’s Six-Point Plan to Raise Happy, Healthy Children,” which attracted attention and some controversy.

Wrote several other books, including “The Well-Behaved Child: Discipline that Really Works.”
