• Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St., Niles, has scheduled the following: Monday, bridge at 10 a.m. , Arthritis Foundation exercise program ($1) at 11 a.m., quilting and cards at 1 p.m., cards and lunch ($2) at 4, and TOPS at 5; Tuesday, breakfast ($2) at 9 a.m., square dancing ($3) at 9:30; a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. ($3 members and $4 nonmembers), 500 tournament at 1 p.m. (preregistration is required) and pinochle at 2:30; Wednesday, chair yoga at 10 a.m., luncheon ($3 members and $4 nonmembers) at 11:30 and bingo at 1 p.m.; Thursday, line dancing at 9:30 a.m., lunch ($3 for members and $4 for others) at 11:30, pinochle and bridge at 1 p.m. and Wii bowling at 2:30; and Friday, free art class at 10 a.m., arthritis exercise program ($1) at 11, sandwich/salad lunch ($2) at 11:30, and Texas Hold’em, card games and mixed chorus singing at Briarfield at the Ridge, all at 1 p.m. For more information on these events, call the center, (330) 544-3676.

Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, is reminding senior citizens to begin calling the center at (330) 744-5071 Monday to make an appointment to have their taxes prepared. Beginning Feb. 1, trained AARP tax experts will be at the center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Monday and Friday. Appointments are required for the service; no walk-ins. Take last year’s tax return and all 2009 tax-related papers. The returns will be filed electronically, so all parties need to be present. From 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sunrise Assisted Living will sponsor a free buffet (diabetic goodies also available) at the center.
