Poinsettia for a Cause and the activity staff of Windsor House at Omni Manor prepare to distribute poinsettia’s to over 170 residents living in the nursing home.

Matt Severn, an Austintown Walgreens employee, has a mission.

A few years ago, he visited his grandmother over the holidays at Omni Manor Health Care Center in Girard carrying a poinsettia as a gift. As he walked the halls toward her room, many residents asked if the flowers were for them.

After that experience, Severn decided he wanted to bring Christmas joy to others, and so “Poinsettia for a Cause” was born. This year, Severn collected more than $700, including donations from his co-workers. He was able to deliver 170 poinsettias to the care center Dec. 22 at the facility’s annual Christmas party. Poinsettias were delivered to residents who were unable to attend the activity.
