Poland Village held its first council meeting of 2010 Tuesday night to discuss monthly meeting schedules for committees and boards for the current year.
Meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month was motioned and approved.
Many updates were submitted and accepted in writing rather than in a verbal announcement.
Sidewalk upkeep has been a concern of Poland Village citizens. Residents recommended that funds from the transportation enhancement grant should be used to keep the sidewalk areas free of snow.
Poland Village resident Lori Kumler, Cortland Ave., believes that clear sidewalks are a necessity for the town. She lives near the Poland Library and says that kids need to be able to walk a clear and safe route.
Without clear sidewalks, kids will have to walk in the streets. Kulmer says that high traffic areas tend to be more of a priority than residential homes located on side streets.
“It’s kind of a hit-and-miss situation,” said Kumler. “They will clear the sidewalks in some areas, but not all.”
Kumler and other residents complained about the snow on the sidewalks. Council members acknowledged the sidewalk issue and stated that village funds are scarce.
The meeting ended with an executive session to discuss pending litigations.
