School-bus crash in Warren sends students to hospitals

The extent of the students’ injuries was not disclosed.

STAFF REPORT

WARREN — Several Warren G. Harding High School students were taken to area hospitals, at least one by ambulance, after their school bus collided with the back of a minivan at the intersection of Summit Street and Parkman Road on the city’s northwest side.

The bus was westbound on Summit transporting students to the northwest area from Harding when the crash occurred about 2:45 p.m. Friday.

Fifteen students were on the bus, said schools Superintendent Kathryn Hellweg, who said that one student was taken to a hospital by ambulance and several others also were taken to hospitals to be checked.

She said late Friday afternoon she did not know how many students were taken to hospitals nor the extent of any of the injuries.

The bus is apparently the same one involved in an accident in November on Atlantic Street N.E. that also sent students to the hospital after the bus was rear-ended at a railroad crossing on its way to Harding in the morning.

The driver was not the same one as in November, but the bus was delivering students home on the same route as in November, Hellweg added.

No information was available from the Warren Police Department on the cause of the crash and if anyone had been charged.
