Performance includes flutist
Emilia DePaul (right), from St. Rose School and her band director Laura Volenik played a flute duet for the music students at Canfield Middle School Dec. 22. The piece was a theme and variations on Greensleeves, also known as What Child Is This.
Canfield Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade symphonic band members were entertained by a wonderful flute duet by Emilia DePaul and Laura Volenik on Dec. 22.
DePaul, an eighth-grade student at Girard’s St. Rose School and her band director performed a variation on Greensleeves, also known as “What Child Is This?” The piece was slow and lyrical at times, but had moments of great rhythmic independence and required great technique.
After the performance, DePaul was invited by CMS band director James Volenik to sit in as the Canfield band was sight-seeing an involved piece entitled “Lexicon.”
DePaul has been playing the flute since fourth-grade and receives private lessons from Shery Larson of Boardman.
She is a member of the Ohio Music Educators Association District Five Middle School Honor Band and looks forward to being a member of the Ursuline High School Band next year.
