YOUNGS-TOWN — The Rev. Samuel G. Holmes Jr. of New Castle, Pa., will be installed as pastor of Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1232 Hill St., during a service at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

He had been the associate pastor at St. Peter Baptist Church under Pastor William Wilson, who will be guest speaker.

The Rev. Mr. Holmes was ordained in September 1986 at Phillip Memorial Baptist Church.

Annual Mass for Life

YOUNGSTOWN — Bishop George V. Murry will be the celebrant and homilist for the 12th annual Mass for Life at noon Jan. 16 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., and at 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at St. John the Baptist Church in Canton.

A luncheon, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, will follow in St. Columba parish hall.

A luncheon and program with Damon Owens of the Archdiocese of Newark Family Life Office will be at noon at St. John the Baptist parish hall.

Flame Fellowship

BOARDMAN — Greater Youngstown Chapter of Flame Fellowship, an inter-denominational ministry, will meet Jan. 18 at Georgeanna Parker Activity Center in Boardman Park.

Fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the ministry at 7.

Guest speaker will be Debra Ingram, director of Healing Rooms of Mahoning Valley and host of Broadcast Ministry radio show.

New series to begin

WARREN — A new series, “Life Is Short: Make It Count,” will begin Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Park Ave.

Services are at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. Rick Oaks is pastor.

Seraphim Chorus

LIBERTY — Unity Church Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, will host a concert by the Seraphim Chorus at 7 p.m. today.

Seraphim is a 50-member community chorus directed by Kris Harper.

It performs a blend of classical, traditional, spiritual and popular favorites.

This is an annual winter concert and fundraiser for the center.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Voluntary donations will be accepted.

Seating is on a first-come basis.

Concert at church

BELOIT — Beloit Evangelical Friends Church will host the Calvarymen Quartet in concert at 6 p.m. Jan. 17.

The group was formed in Flint, Mich., in 1956, and has been part of southern Gospel music since then.

A love offering will be received.

Prayer and reflection

STRUTHERS — “An Evening with St. Luke” is planned at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St., with prayer and reflection on the Gospel of St. Luke.

A reception with refreshments will follow.

Children’s program

LIBERTY — Church Hill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, will present a new interactive children’s program, A.R.K. (Awesome Rotating Kids), starting at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

The program, based in learning about God, will include cooking in the Bread of Life Cafe, building at the Carpenter Shop and acting and singing at Solid Rock Productions.

Marriage preparation

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — “Marriage Preparation: Weekend for Engaged Couples” is planned Feb. 20 and 21 at Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center.

The program will explore basic concerns that will make or break a marriage.

Experienced married couples will guide the program.

Cost is $185 per couple, which includes materials, overnight accommodations and meals.

Additionally, there is a commuter option with a cost of $160 per couple that includes all meals.

Registration is required by Jan. 30.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Diocesan Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will recite the rosary at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 20 at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave., then attend the noon Mass.

NOW Creations

YOUNGSTOWN — NOW Creations continues to sponsor group discussions for spiritual growth with sessions from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. Thursdays at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road. Vince Lisi facilitates the meeting using Eckhart Tolle’s book, “A New Earth.”

Gospel concert

BOARDMAN — Simon Road Church of God, 4750 Simon Road, will present the Gospel River Boys in concert at 6 p.m. Jan. 17. A free-will offering will be taken.

Weekend retreat

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — A weekend retreat is scheduled Feb. 19-21 at Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center with presenters Sister Patricia Lenard and Sandy Kirschner of Angel Wing Ministry. It will offer an in-depth exploration of the divine feminine.

In this retreat, Scriptural themes are interwoven with themes from the feature film “Chocolat,” and the Clarissa Pikola Estes book “Women Who Run With the Wolves.”

Sister Patricia is a member of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. Kirschner is a campus minister with a counseling/pastoral-care background.

The cost is $220 and includes two overnight accommodations, Friday dinner, Saturday meals and Sunday breakfast. There is a commuter option with a cost of $180 that includes Friday dinner, Saturday lunch and dinner.

Registration deadline is Jan. 29.
