Glenwood wrestlers earn win over Massillon Perry

The Boardman Glenwood wrestling team went 2-2 at the Federal League Duals tournament Dec. 19. The Spartans beat a combined Massilon Perry and Canton ‘B’ team and Hartford Middle School.

The team’s two losses were to Canton Glenwood and Massilon Jackson, both by seven points. The same day, the Glenwood “B” team competed at the South Range Holiday tournament, where Nick Kubala placed fourth.

The team began their wrestling season with a tough 45-42 loss to South Range. The match was decided in the final two bouts. Dave Baun, Jake Hoover, Austin Clark, Kyle Bishop and Kraig Lyons all recorded their first pins of the season.

The following weekend, the team earned fifth-place at the Canfield Dual Meet tournament.

The Spartan wrestlers won their matches against Brookfield, Waterloo and South Range and were defeated by Southeast and Girard. Kyle Bishop, John Chicase, Austin Clark, Jake Hoover, Nick Kubala, Donnie Lucarell, Kraig Lyons, Vince Mancini, Kevin Massie, Michael Palagao, Arjun Pandya, Cole Stanich, Matt Valicenti, Shane Varner and Chalie Wooley all won matches. Dave Baun and Frank Gonzalez won all five of thier matches.

The team will wrestle Austintown Middle School Wednesday and host the Spartan Duals at Center Middle School Jan. 30.
