Boardman swimmers claim individual victories


The Boardman varsity swim teams dropped Federal League meets Dec. 11 against North Canton Hoover.

On the girls’ side, Boardman had three individual wins. The boys had two individual victories.

Junior Jessica Gonda won the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.50). Senior Jeana McEvey won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.51) and junior Ashley Aldan took first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.17).

Junior Mike Reardon posted a career-best time of 2:00.79 in winning the 200-yard freestyle. Freshman Ryan Bailey won the 100-yard breaststroke in the time of 1:06.94.

Boardman also captured first in the girls 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:59.54. Senior Megan Barringer swam the backstroke followed by Ashley Aldan in the breaststroke. The butterfly leg was handled by Jessica Gonda and the freestyle anchor was sophomore Emily Bodamer.

Both the Spartan girls and boys had two relay wins in the Northeast Aquatic Conference Relay Meet Dec. 12.

Boardman won both boys and girls 200 butterfly relays. Seniors Ali Azeem and Ryan Mitchell were joined by sophomores Alex Downie and Ryan Bailey to win the boys relay in the time of 1:42.88.

Jessica Gonda, Emily Bodamer, freshman Colleen Manning and Ashley Aldan posted a time of 1:59.00 to win the girls’ butterfly relay.

Gonda, Aldan and Manning were joined by Megan Barringer on the winning 200-yard backstroke relay (2:03.18). Bailey and Azeem were teamed with juniors Mike Henson and Steve Moss on the winning 200-yard medley relay in a season-best time of 1:45.84.

On the 1 meter diving boards, Boardman’s Katie Ligore and Katie DiGiacomo teamed to place second overall.
